Through an impressive career spanning almost 24 years of experience in the art of classical Indian dance (Barathanatyam) under his belt, Guru Sri Chandramohan has come a long way since his humblebeginning in Kuantan. Guru Sri Chandramohan’s involvement and Initial training in Barathanatyam began at the age of eight under the guidance of Nirthiya Kalalayam Guru Srimathi Visalachi Ramachandran in 1973. He then completed his Arangetram in 1979. Compelled his passion for dance, he further pursued his Diploma in Barathanatyam with Barathachoodamani Dance Academy in Madras under the tutelage of world renowned Padmashri Guru Sri Adayar K.Lakshmanan. He has been graduated with a Diploma in Barathanatyam in 1984.
Then, he learnt the nuances of Kuchipudi dance under the professional guidance of Dr.Vempati Chinna Satyam and Guru Srimathi Priyaraman and also the world famous dancer Guru Sri Sopna Sundari at the Kuchipudi Dance Academy, Chennai in 1986.

Upon returning to Malaysia, he set up the Sri Nandhigeswarar Dance Academy & Warisan Seni & Kebudayaan Sri Nandhigeswarar. He now teaches the Barathanatyam and Kuchipudi dance classes in various towns across Malaysia. A very dedicated teacher, Guru Sri Chandramohan emphasizes on highly disciplined training in order to excel in this art.
In his vision to actualize this ancient art-form of religion, Guru Sri Chandramohan, has established classes in Sri Maha Mariamman Temple- IPOH, Sri Sakthi Vinayagar Temple AMPANG, Subramaniam Temple- CAMERON HIGHLANDS, Sangeetha Abivirthi Sabha (Vivekananda Ashrama)- BRICKFIELDS and he has set up Warisan Seni & Kebudayaan Sri Nandhigeshwarar at Rawang.
Specializing in Barathanatyam and Kuchipudi, Guru Sri Chandramohan firmly believes that Indian dance forms should get firmly entrenched in the evolving Indian Culture in Malaysia. Throughout the years, his Dance Academy has grown to cover event the outskirts of Klang Valley where his daily routine would be waking up at 5 am in the morning to conduct classes in Cameron Highlands, just to be back to the city by 5pm for classes held in Vivekananda Ashrama, Brickfields.
His students range from 4 years of age till ‘as long as you can dance’ according to him. A Guru with many artistic talent full of passion for dance and the spirit of natya itself. He has one wish and that is to see more young people participating and commiting themselves to perfecting and keeping the art of the Barathanatyam dance itself.
Alongside his command over music, Guru Sri Chandramohan is also very able at nattuvangam, the art of conducting a dance recital. For his proficiency in dance, he is been awarded the title of ‘Baratha Kala Sihamani’ by Tok Puan Uma Sambantan in 2005 and ‘Aadal Arasu’ by Tamil Movie Legend Vijayakumar in 2006.
It is hoped that the direction taken by Guru Sri Chandramohan will see this ancient dance- forms flourish in Malaysia. Guru Sri Chandramohan’s contribution to the development and propagation of Indian Art and Culture is very significant. |
